Divine intervention: FEC challenges newly launched ‘Jesus Christ’ PAC

The Federal Election Commission is questioning the legitimacy of a newly formed presidential campaign under the name “Jesus Christ,” records show.

“His Royal Majesty Antonio Valtez Telpharaoh Toliver Jesus Christ Ens Reale Wholly Iamgod” registered as a federal political action committee on March 23, claiming it will deposit funds into the “Federal Reserve of HRM,” according to a filing.

The PAC, however, is failing to pass the sniff test for the independent regulatory agency, which, on Wednesday, said in a letter that it may have illegally “failed to include the true, correct, or complete candidate information.”

FEC: TRUMP-STORMY CASE ‘NOT A CAMPAIGN FINANCE VIOLATION’

“The Commission requires the candidate to designate his or her principal campaign committee by filing a Statement of Candidacy on FEC Form 2, or if the candidate is not required to file electronically,” the regulator wrote in a letter to the committee. “Furthermore, the Commission requires the filing to be true, correct, and complete.”

The FEC added: “Additionally, knowingly and willfully making any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation to a federal government agency, including the Federal Election Commission, is punishable under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. § 1001.”

In its statement of candidacy, the Jesus campaign listed former President Donald Trump as its vice presidential pick. Trump announced a 2024 White House bid in November 2022 and has been repeatedly compared to Jesus in the past few days, thanks to him being criminally indicted during Holy Week.

The committee also claims to be headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Its address matches that of an apartment complex, documents show.

The FEC declined a request for comment, pointing the Washington Examiner to an interim procedure passed in August 2016 about campaign filings “containing possibly false or fictitious information.” The procedure instructs government staff to send letters to filers listing “fictional characters, obscene language, sexual references, [and] celebrities.”

The Jesus Christ PAC could not be reached by the Washington Examiner for comment.
