Washington Examiner columnist Guy Benson highlighted Los Angeles mayoral candidate and reality TV star Spencer Pratt as a strong Republican contender among Democratic candidates, saying he is “running an extraordinary campaign.”
“He has an ability to speak clearly and passionately about the failures, obvious failures, of the people who have been running Los Angeles,” Benson said on Fox News’s Special Report with Bret Baier on Monday.
Pratt is running against Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman and current LA Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats.
“He also has an authenticity about him where he doesn’t have this politician speak,” Benson said. “There is a lot to like.”
Pratt’s ad campaigns have circulated heavily online. A Batman-inspired ad on X had 4.9 million views, and another ad for “pratt summer” gained 1 million.
Benson also reacted to a Democratic ad against Pratt that has been widely reposted on X. The video was paid for by an independent expenditure committee called “A Unions Opposed to Spencer Pratt for Mayor 2026.”
Host John Roberts, who was in for Bret Baier, said this ad could lead to a huge backfire for Democrats.
The ad said, “Pratt opposes using taxpayer money to build brand new houses for our unhoused neighbors, saying it’s time for the homeless to ‘get help or get out.’ Pratt thinks L.A. needs thousands more police officers rather than more social workers.”
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) reposted it and said, “This attack ad could well elect Pratt.”
“I want Spencer Pratt to do well,” Benson said.

“It is a very tough hill to climb for anyone who is not on team blue to win, but could the stars be aligning with enough people fed up with the failures locally to give him a shot? Maybe,” Benson said.
The primary race for the mayoral election will be held on June 2.
