The 2024 presidential race is expected to heat up as former South Carolina GOP Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to announce her bid in the coming weeks.

The only declared candidate in the Republican primary is former President Donald Trump, but with others expected to announce runs in the coming months, here’s a look at how potential Republican candidates are polling.

In the GOP field, Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) have fared the best among the potential field of candidates. The rest are far behind.

A Morning Consult poll conducted from Jan. 27-29 among potential GOP primary voters had Trump leading with 48% of the vote. He is followed by DeSantis at 31%, former Vice President Mike Pence at 8%, and Haley at 3%.

A Yahoo News-YouGov poll among Republicans and GOP-leaning independents from December showed Trump at 39%, DeSantis at 37%, Haley at 5%, and Pence at 4%.

In one-on-one matchups between potential GOP candidates and President Joe Biden, DeSantis holds an edge over Trump. DeSantis leads Biden 45%-38%, while Trump is tied with Biden at 40% each, per a recent Marquette University poll.

The same poll showed that GOP voters prefer DeSantis to Trump by a 64% to 36% margin when asked to choose between the two.

DeSantis is widely seen as one of the leading candidates for the GOP nomination, but he has not announced a run for the White House. The popular governor refused to answer if he would run for president in 2024 when pressed during a gubernatorial debate against his Democratic opponent in October.

Several other Republicans, including Govs. Kristi Noem (R-SD) and Chris Sununu (R-NH) have teased runs but have also not made any official announcements.
