Using school to indoctrinate children with “woke” liberal ideology is something that should be immediately disqualifying for someone wanting to work in education, both for pushing a toxic worldview on children and for actively sabotaging their educations.
Glassbrook Elementary School is one school that needs to heed this warning and clean house. Nestled between Oakland and San Jose in the Bay Area, Glassbrook spent a whopping $250,000 in federal money on an organization literally called “Woke Kindergarten,” which is committed to “abolitionist early education and pro-black and queer and trans liberation.”
As you can imagine based on that brief description, the group is obnoxiously political and teaches children to hate police officers and become little racists who divide people based on their skin color and “disrupt whiteness.” The group’s founder believes both the United States and Israel don’t have a right to exist. Every brain-dead opinion from a whiny college undergraduate who thinks they are smarter than the world is included.
Not included, though, is anything that helps children actually learn. In what should be a surprise to absolutely no one, Glassbrook’s reading and math scores have hit new lows in the second year of a three-year contract with Woke Kindergarten, a massive failure given the school was already performing poorly. District officials defended this because attendance is up and suspensions are down, though they also falsely claimed the school was no longer on a state watchlist when it had actually dropped to a worse level.
Of course, suspensions are also down because Woke Kindergarten does not believe in suspensions at all. So, Glassbrook is paying $250,000 for an alleged boost in attendance (which matches the boost the rest of the district has also seen) and worse reading and math scores. The students may be dumber, but at least they are going to be good “woke” foot soldiers for liberal activist organizations in the next decade.

Everyone involved in this belongs nowhere near any form of education. That goes without saying for “Woke Kindergarten,” but it also holds true for the school board that approved this and for the administrators who supported it. Every single one of them either put their politics ahead of the most basic function of their job, which is helping educate children, or they are so gullible that they believed spending a quarter of a million dollars on sophomoric political content would help children learn. This should be embarrassing and worthy of mockery, but more importantly, it should be disqualifying.
Lecturing children about Israel or police officers or “whiteness” does nothing for them but puts them on the same miserable path as the perpetually angry activists indoctrinating them. Schools should be focused on teaching children math and how to read, not how to become bitter liberal activists. Anyone who does not agree with that belongs nowhere near the classroom of any school, underperforming or otherwise.
