Not only do more than 6 in 10 swing-state voters blame President Joe Biden for the border crisis, but immigration is rising as a matter important to voters in those states, and if Biden were to lose all of them, he would also lose the Electoral College to former President Donald Trump, 306 to 232.
The poll was conducted by Bloomberg between Jan. 16-22 in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In 2020, Biden won all of those states but North Carolina. Trump leads in each of the swing states and by 48% to 42% overall, according to the Bloomberg poll.
The “economy” is still the top concern for most voters, at 36%, but immigration was second, at 13%, the highest percentage for the topic in the poll’s history.
When asked specifically, “Based on what you know, how responsible, if at all, are the following for the increase in migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border?” 61% said Biden was to blame, 58% said Democrats in Congress were to blame, 37% said Republicans in Congress were to blame, while just 29% said Trump was to blame.
Not only do swing-state voters overwhelmingly blame Biden for the border crisis, but they also trust Trump to clean it up. Asked who they trusted more on immigration, 52% chose Trump compared to just 30% who chose Biden.
There is no topic that swing-state voters trust Trump more over Biden than immigration, although the economy is a close second, with voters trusting Trump more, just 51% to 33%. Climate change is Biden’s best issue. Voters trust Biden over Trump on climate 42% to 31%, but only 4% of voters identified climate as their top issue.
November is a long way off. At any point, Biden could finally stop listening to the open borders activists who are staffing his administration and listen to the small minority of staff who know what it will take to end the border crisis.

This border hawk faction reportedly almost convinced Biden to revive a more humane version of Trump’s popular and successful “Remain in Mexico” program in his first year in office, but that faction obviously lost. Biden has since done nothing but make it easier for migrants to enter the United States illegally and then stay here forever.
Will that calculus change as the border crisis continues to hurt Biden’s reelection chances? We will see.
