Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have claimed the title of “princess” for their daughter Lilibet and “prince” for their son Archie. It’s an odd decision from a couple who have made it clear, very clear, that they are not terribly fond of the British Royal Family. At the same time, however, they have not yet accepted an invitation to attend the May coronation of King Charles III in London.

There’s a stunning hypocrisy in this claiming of titles for their children and their simultaneous disregard for royal tradition. The king’s coronation is, after all, a rather formal foundation for the existence of princes and princesses! Regardless, after the brutal gas-lighting Harry gave his brother and father in his recent autobiography, Spare, this coronation invitation must be seen as a heartfelt and magnanimous gesture by those royals in more than name only. That the prince and his wife have not yet accepted the invite is telling. This is not a couple who sees humility in the mirror. Their reflections are always those of Montecito palace victims.

HARRY AND MEGHAN SAY THEY ARE IN TALKS TO ATTEND KING CHARLES III’S CORONATION

They pretend that their time within the Royal Family was one of suffocating brutality. The question of brutality aside, it was almost certainly a time of suffocating boredom. Considering the nature of the British upper classes, it is also likely that Meghan suffered some highly lamentable racism. Nevertheless, she and Harry are now freed from the despotism of the royal court and are able to make tens of millions of dollars a year with their various ventures. When not fulfilling his lucrative deal with Netflix, the prince conducts pay-per-view psychologist sessions. The couple can now pay for the large security detail they claim is necessary amid exaggerated threats. The two have no good reason not to bury the hatchet and spend 12 hours in London.

Instead, the couple’s tedious hypocrisy abounds.

Another example comes via their attacks on press freedom. They apparently detest even South Park’s satire, believing themselves entitled to public-facing riches without any of the baggage.

Perhaps Harry and Meghan will travel to London come May, perhaps not. But one thing’s for sure — they remain just as tedious as ever.
