Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) got into an argument with fellow firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Jan. 3 inside a bathroom just outside the House floor as she confronted the Colorado Republican for refusing to back Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s speakership bid, according to reports.

On the first day the new Congress convened, the pair were heard yelling at each other inside the bathroom located near the speaker’s lobby in the Capitol building, according to the Daily Beast. The altercation occurred when Greene came out of a stall and confronted Boebert for receiving campaign funds from McCarthy during the midterm elections but refusing to vote for him as speaker.

“You were OK taking millions of dollars from McCarthy, but you refuse to vote for him for speaker, Lauren?” one source recalled Greene saying, according to the outlet.

“Don’t be ugly,” Boebert reportedly replied before leaving the bathroom.

The fiery interaction marks a split between the two second-term lawmakers as they both seek to increase their influence in the party. When the pair was first elected in 2020, Greene and Boebert became known as two of the more controversial members of their party.

However, Greene seemingly took a step back from this strategy at the beginning of the new Congress as she broke with fellow firebrands Boebert and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and chose to back McCarthy as he vied for speaker. Boebert and Gaetz were two of six lawmakers who chose not to vote for McCarthy and instead voted “present.”

It’s not clear how, or if at all, the altercation will affect the pair’s working relationship moving forward. The Washington Examiner reached out to both Greene and Boebert for comment but has not received a response.
