Tim Scott hints at presidential run during Senate victory speech

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) hinted at a future presidential run on Tuesday while giving a speech celebrating his midterm election victory over Democratic challenger Krystle Matthews.

“My grandfather voted for the first man of color to be elected as president of the United States. I wish he had lived long enough to see perhaps another man of color elected president of the United States,” Scott said on Tuesday, eliciting cheers from supporters. “But this time, let it be a Republican and not just a Democrat. So just know: All things are possible in America.”
Scott’s victory on Tuesday, securing a third term, helps bolster Republicans’ chances of winning a majority in the Senate. Scott was first elected during a special election in 2014, becoming the Senate’s only black Republican. He later won reelection in 2016.
Since being elected to the Senate, Scott has long been considered a contender as a presidential candidate among Republicans.

Though it’s not clear whether he’ll seek a White House bid in 2024, Scott is often considered a high-profile Republican who will throw his hat into the ring.
