Trump says peace deal between U.S. and Iran has been reached

President Donald Trump announced Sunday afternoon a peace deal had been reached between the United States and Iran, concluding months of fighting in the Middle East that began in February.

Trump said “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete” in the announcement on Truth Social. “Congratulations to all!” 

Trump also authorized the “immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade” as well as the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbahz Sharif said just minutes earlier in an X post “we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Uran has been REACHED.”

“Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” the announcement also said.

The official signing ceremony will be held on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland. The deal was announced on Trump’s 80th birthday.
