House oversight committee Democrats demand White House officials testify over Epstein files meetings

.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee ranking member Robert Garcia (D-CA) said he will seek interviews with top administration officials over their handling of the files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Garcia said he plans to request Vice President JD Vance, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and FBI Director Kash Patel appear before the committee.

The request comes after a New York Times report detailed the administration’s Situation Room meetings over the Jeffrey Epstein case last year. Vance reportedly pushed for “maximum transparency,” which included a suggestion that media personality Tucker Carlson interview Ghislaine Maxwell.

VANCE PUSHED FOR ‘MAXIMUM TRANSPARENCY’ DURING EPSTEIN FILES FALLOUT, NEW BOOK REVEALS

“The New York Times’s bombshell reporting confirmed what we already knew: Todd Blanche, JD Vance, and other top Administration officials are more focused on protecting the President than getting justice for survivors—even using convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell to do it,” Garcia wrote on X.

According to Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, a book by reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, a Situation Room meeting was held on July 17, 2025, to discuss the Epstein fallout. In the end, the White House called for the release of grand jury materials related to the case. Wiles told the group she would discuss the matter with Trump and ask whether he would post on Truth Social calling for the release of the sealed grand jury documents, according to the book.

Amid the disagreements, the White House was derailed by months of paralysis over how to handle the case.

The call from Garcia comes as the committee has conducted 16 interviews on its investigation into the convicted sex offender, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, former Attorneys General Pam Bondi and Bill Barr, billionaire Les Wexner, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Maxwell.

As part of the investigation, the committee has released multiple batches of documents related to the files, many of which were obtained from the committee’s subpoena to Epstein’s estate.

While the Justice Department has released a slew of files, some have been pushed back, prompting Democrats to insist the department has not complied with a law passed by Congress last year requiring the release of all documents pertaining to Epstein.
