Former President Bill Clinton says in his new book that he wishes he “had never met” Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sexual offender.
In his latest memoir, Citizen: My Life After the White House, Clinton says he regrets ever meeting Epstein to talk about his foundation, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Clinton met with Epstein at least twice in 2002, the period of time covered in the book, which details Clinton’s life after leaving the presidency in 2001.
The book also details Clinton’s work on his wife Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2016, his reaction to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, and his relationship with Monica Lewinsky after the two’s affair during his presidency.
According to the report, the former president says he was concerned that he was publicly accused of not apologizing to Lewinsky. He writes that he did, according to the report, but not in person.

Bill Clinton also discusses the 2024 election, responding in a Q&A in the report about whether the election of President-elect Donald Trump would affect the work of his foundation. He said his foundation is not partisan.
“I’ve always had a fairly substantial number of Republican supporters, including a couple who were openly for President Trump,” Bill Clinton said. “And I’m hopeful that means they won’t interfere with the good work that is saving lives.”
