Radio host Charlamagne tha God was taken aback when he learned President-elect Donald Trump won a surprising amount of voters of color in the 2024 election.
Prior to the 2024 presidential election, which saw Trump defeat Vice President Kamala Harris, polling data gauging the former president’s support among black and Hispanic voters was much higher than it was in previous elections. Upon learning that Trump received one out of three votes from voters of color, Charlamagne asked, “Really?” before suggesting that voters have “different issues” they want to be addressed by presidential candidates.
“I think some of this is a backlash to race and gender and identity politics, but man, most people, they just care about keeping food on their table and keeping a roof over their head,” Charlamagne said on ABC News. “And I think sometimes people forget about that. I think they forget about the working class, and for whatever reason, Donald Trump speaks to the grievances of the working class in a real way.”
The radio host continued by suggesting that while voters will forget what some politicians say, they will “never forget how you made them feel,” and cited how people remember how they received stimulus checks carrying Trump’s name during the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that people ultimately care about financial security and personal safety, which the president-elect was able to speak to throughout his campaign.
Last month, Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump was a guest on Charlamagne’s radio show, The Breakfast Club, during which she contended that Harris and the “coup” conducted against President Joe Biden was “the real threat to democracy.” Following the election, Charlamagne gave her a congratulatory message on her father-in-law’s victory, to which Lara Trump thanked and promised him the next Trump administration would be one for all of the United States.
Unlike other celebrities, Charlamagne has stated he is not going to leave the U.S. over Trump’s win, asking, “Where am I going?” He also said he hopes the country can come together in the future, suggesting the nation is “still the United States of America” and “we gotta unify, in some way, shape, or form.”

Following his victory, Trump has begun working on his Cabinet. His first hire was Susie Wiles, his 2024 co-campaign manager, as his next White House chief of staff. Wiles’s selection has been praised by many Republicans and supporters of Trump, including Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), who called her a “fantastic choice.”
Trump has also tapped the former head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Tom Homan, the new “border czar” in his administration.
