Biden holds ceremony in honor of Oct. 7 attacks as Trump faults his leadership

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump took contrasting paths to mark the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks.

The president, alongside first lady Jill Biden, took part in a yahrzeit candle lighting at the White House. The Bidens were joined by Adas Israel Congregation’s Rabbi Aaron Alexander, who recited the El Malei Rachamim prayer, according to the White House. Biden did not speak during the ceremony, which concluded with a brief moment of silence.

Trump, on the other hand, opened his day with a radio interview with 77 WABC radio host Sid Rosenberg.

Rosenberg, a vocal Trump supporter, is traveling in Israel to mark the Oct. 7 anniversary.

Trump’s interview covered a number of political issues beyond the Oct. 7 attacks, and the former president said that “nobody’s done more for the Jewish people than [he has].”

“I should get 100% of the Jewish vote, and I don’t,” he continued. “It’s amazing.”

Trump proceeded to attack both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is slated to deliver remarks commemorating Oct. 7 Monday evening, for producing the “worst foreign policy” in American history.

“Oct. 7 never would have happened if I was there,” the former president said. “This is the stupidest regime. There’s never been anything like it, and now we have Kamala, who’s dumber than him. Biden is sharper than Kamala.”

Earlier in the day, Biden honored “the indomitable spirit of the Jewish people” in a statement that also recognized Oct. 7 as “a dark day for the Palestinian people because of the conflict that Hamas unleashed that day.”

“We will never give up until we bring all of the remaining hostages home safely,” Biden wrote. “I also strongly condemn the vicious surge in antisemitism in America and around the world. It is unacceptable. All of us must stand united against antisemitism and against hate in all its forms.”
