Regardless of one’s political allegiances, people in the United States should be able to objectively criticize our leaders without first considering political affiliation.

In a perfect world, if a Democratic politician were doing poorly at their job, Democrats would not be hesitant to criticize them and call for their removal from office, if necessary. This also holds for Republican voters. Such is the case with Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, who has completely failed in his position.

Fortunately, some voters have seen the light on this issue.

A recent poll from Rasmussen found that “55% of Likely U.S. voters” support legislative efforts to impeach Mayorkas. It included 37% of voters who “strongly approved.” Conversely, only 33% of voters disapproved of any measure taken to impeach and remove the Department of Homeland Security from office, including “22% who strongly disapprove.”

It’s a startling rebuke of the Biden administration’s failed border policies since January 20, 2021.

For example, since President Joe Biden took office, there have been 6.2 million illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The chaos at the border has also led to a significant increase in fentanyl seizures. The CBP reported it seized over 27,000 pounds of fentanyl in fiscal year 2023. That represents a “464% increase since fiscal year 2020” and more “fentanyl seizures than 2021 and 2022 combined.”

It is indicative of how badly the Biden administration has failed the country on this issue.

Given the record number of illegal immigrants who have attempted to cross the border since Biden was inaugurated and Mayorkas’s impotence on the matter, it’s not altogether shocking to see many people so sour on the DHS Secretary. In fact, the only shock from this is that the percentage is not higher than just 55%. As poorly as Mayorkas has done on this matter, it could legitimately be argued that it should be closer to 95% instead of 55%.

After all, when politicians’ failures directly threaten the safety of the country’s people, logic would dictate a majority would want such an incompetent official out of office.
