President Joe Biden was interviewed by the special counsel investigating his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Special counsel Robert Hur conducted interviews with Biden over Sunday and Monday, according to White House Counsel’s Office spokesman Ian Sams, per CBS. Sams pointed to the interviews as further evidence that Biden has been cooperating with the investigation from the beginning.

“The president has been interviewed as part of the investigation being led by Special Counsel Robert Hur,” the spokesman said.

“The voluntary interview was conducted at the White House over two days, Sunday and Monday, and concluded Monday. As we have said from the beginning, the president and the White House are cooperating with this investigation, and as it has been appropriate, we have provided relevant updates publicly, being as transparent as we can consistent with protecting and preserving the integrity of the investigation. We would refer other questions to the Justice Department at this time,” he added.

Biden revealed in August that he hadn’t been approached for an interview with the special counsel.

“There’s no such request and no such interest,” he said on Aug. 25 when asked if he was planning to sit for an interview with the special counsel.

The reveal drew outrage from many Republicans, who contrasted the situation with that of former President Donald Trump.

Biden has defended himself in the past by stressing his cooperation with authorities, which he contrasts with Trump’s actions.

Biden is also facing scrutiny over his alleged involvement in some of his son Hunter Biden’s business deals.
