House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) will hold his weekly press briefing on Thursday as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visits Congress to testify on Ukraine’s need for military aid from Congress.

House Republicans have been hesitant to supply additional aid for Ukraine while the United States faces myriad other issues, including problems caused by high inflation and a surge of illegal immigration on the southern border. Just last week, the House opposed a White House and Senate Republican proposal to pass a $24 billion Ukraine aid supplemental measure with a short-term continuing budget resolution.

The U.S. has sent $113 billion to Ukraine since the start of the war in February 2022.

Zelensky’s return to Washington is his second since Russia invaded Ukraine last year. Zelensky’s first visit came as a surprise last December. This time, Zelensky’s trip to Washington comes after he spoke in front of the United Nations in New York City.

Jeffries’s press briefing is expected to start at 11 a.m. EDT.
