Homeland Security Adviser Dr. Liz Sherwood-Randall will join White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for a briefing on Thursday on the government’s response to Hurricane Idalia.
Idalia made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on Wednesday morning in Florida but has since decreased to a tropical depression on Wednesday evening. Millions were placed under a severe weather watch in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

President Joe Biden said he has been in contact with the governors of Georgia, Florida, and North and South Carolina and approved an emergency declaration for Florida. The Biden administration has mobilized more than 1,500 federal personnel and more than 540 urban search-and-rescue team personnel, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell arrived in Florida on Wednesday night to begin conducting damage assessments.
