Graffiti artist killed by monorail while vandalizing Seattle building

A teenager died Sunday after he was struck by the Seattle Monorail while using graffiti to vandalize a building, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when officers responded to reports that someone had been hit by the monorail, according to a report.

After arriving on the scene, authorities discovered the unresponsive body of a 14-year-old male.
Emergency responders with the Seattle Fire Department tried to perform lifesaving measures, but the teenager soon died, the report noted.
Footage taken before he was hit showed the teenager had been using spray paint to tag a building close to the monorail tracks, which are 30 feet above ground at its highest points, authorities said.
Monorail services closed for the day and reopened Monday.

The building believed to have been tagged was reported as having graffiti on its exterior wall and roof. A backpack was found where the teenager was reported to have been before being struck.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
