Don Lemon gives first TV interview since CNN firing

Former CNN host Don Lemon appeared for his first television interview since his firing by the network earlier this year.
Lemon sat down with ABC News during his appearance at the NAACP Memphis chapter conference earlier the same day, and did not address any of the details for his firing—only implying his “journalistic duty” was on the line.

“I don’t believe in platforming liars, and bigots, and insurrectionists, and election deniers, and putting them on the same footing as people who are telling the truth, people who are fighting for what’s right, people who are abiding by the Constitution,” Lemon said. “I think that would be a dereliction of journalistic duty doing those sorts of things. That is what has gotten me to this point, and that is what is going to carry me forward.”
Lemon’s next step is unknown as he said he is “figuring that out.” He signified his timeline maybe longer than others, because he didn’t want to rush into a decision, adding that rushing could lead some people to “make the wrong decision.” This could have been a reference to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson who, after his respective firing, immediately started hosting a Twitter show before his contract was over.

“I’m not worried, at all,” Lemon said. “People are concerned about me and more worried about me than I am about myself.”
Chris Licht, who was the CEO of CNN at the time of Lemon’s firing, has since been relieved from his position.
