The star of Fox News’s hit late-night show, Gutfeld!, has considered the possibility of filling Tucker Carlson’s shoes on the network.

“Obviously, it’s crossed my mind,” host Greg Gutfeld told the Wall Street Journal in an interview.

One thing he noted was that, “If I did 8 o’clock, I would definitely not do The Five and I would no longer do Gutfeld!.” The shows are notably two of the most popular programs on Fox News.

According to him, “I would just do one show because I would prepare for that show like crazy.”

Gutfeld isn’t the only one who has considered the move. Gutfeld! executive producer Tom O’Connor said he thought that the host would fare well in the 8 p.m. slot most recently held by ousted host Tucker Carlson.

“I think he could probably be successful in any of the timeslots,” said O’Connor. “I mean, we were on at 3 in the morning East Coast time when we did Red Eye and people found us.”

Gutfeld initially joined Fox News in 2007 as a contributor, also becoming the host of a 3 a.m. panel show titled Red Eye. He hosted the program until 2015.

Afterward, Gutfeld hosted The Greg Gutfeld Show weekly up until 2021. That’s when the daily late-night show Gutfeld! began.

Fox News announced the abrupt departure of prime-time host Tucker Carlson in April, which came as a shock to many.

“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” a network spokesperson told the Washington Examiner in a statement at the time.

The channel has yet to announce a new host for the 8 p.m. hour and is currently rotating various Fox News contributors.

Carlson has since debuted a new show on Twitter, where he has posted five episodes.

Fox News has reportedly sent Carlson a cease and desist letter following his show’s launch, per Axios. The letter alleges that his content is contractually exclusive to the network through Dec. 31, 2024.

Its also been reported that several Fox News staffers that used to work for Tucker Carlson Tonight have abandoned the network in order to work for his Twitter program.
