President Donald Trump teased changing the name of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to the “Trump Reflecting Pool” during his final appearance before the midterm elections.
“We’re giving serious thought to changing the name to the Trump Reflecting Pool,” the president said.
The Reflecting Pool reopened following months of renovations after the Trump administration’s first attempt to clean out the pool was derailed by peeling paint and an algae bloom. Trump said he would announce the renaming on Tuesday, but shortly after, he said he was joking.
“I’m sure that [Interior] Secretary Doug Burgum will have a lot of fun in announcing that,” Trump said. “I’m only kidding, I’m only kidding, please don’t report it.”
Trump spent about 20 minutes showing photos of the Reflecting Pool prior to the restoration.

The joke comes on the day before Election Day 2026, as candidates and political leaders make their final appeals to voters to cast their ballots. Vice President JD Vance was in New York earlier Monday for his final rally. Meanwhile, Trump stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool during his last appearance before Tuesday.
The president has campaigned across the country alongside GOP candidates with hopes of rallying up his Make America Great Again base and “low propensity voters” to keep Republicans in control of Congress.
