Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha praised a New York gas station for finding an unconventional way to attract customers, calling its promotion offering discounted gas to people willing to dance “impossibly smart.”
The Sunoco and Halfmoon Car Wash in Halfmoon, New York, offered customers 20% off gas and selected in-store purchases on July 30 if they danced for at least 15 seconds in front of the cashier. The promotion, dubbed “Dance for a Discount,” quickly went viral, with videos from the gas station generating millions of views across social media, according to Times Union.
“I think this is impossibly smart. It’s free advertising, Kayleigh,” Concha said to anchor Kayleigh McEnany on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime Thursday. “Customers now driving out of their way to visit this otherwise nondescript gas station.”
The promotion was organized by Paulina Sirotir, the station’s social media manager, who said the goal was to give customers some relief from high gas prices while creating a more enjoyable experience. Three regular customers participated in the original video, which helped to turn the promotion into a viral video.
“But all that said, I think, after watching that, we really need to make dance lessons a mandatory … course in classes, K through 12 and all public schools,” Concha said.
One customer, Denise Lapointe, said she saved $15, according to the New York Post. “I just danced to the beat of my own drum while singing, ‘I’m dancing for a discount. I’m dancing for a discount,’” Lapointe said. “Just being my goofy self.”

Concha said the footage demonstrated why dance lessons might deserve a more prominent place in schools, but that the idea was “great overall.”
“This ain’t Michael Jackson and Shakira that we’re watching here,” Concha said. “But overall, great idea, Kayleigh.”
