President Donald Trump denied having involvement in the raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar‘s (D-MN) Washington, D.C., home by federal agents as part of a criminal investigation on Monday.
Trump told reporters Monday afternoon that federal investigators are looking at Omar “very carefully,” but that the investigation into the congresswoman has “nothing to do with” him.
“I understand they’re looking at her very carefully,” Trump said. “I think she’s a terrible person, just a complainer. She comes from a country that is a non-country, and then she comes over here and she complains about our Constitution. I think she’s a terrible person, but that’s really up to the DOJ. I have nothing to do with it.”
The Washington Examiner has reached out to Omar for comment.
The Justice Department confirmed in a statement that Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a “judicially authorized search warrant” on Omar’s home Monday morning.
“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” DOJ stated.
It is unclear what the nature and scope of the investigation are; however, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said last month that there was an “ongoing investigation” into Omar. The congresswoman said in a statement following the raid that she will “not be silenced.”
“I’m ok,” Omar wrote in a post on X. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

Omar has been a frequent target of fraud allegations from top Republicans. Trump said in January that the DOJ was investigating Omar after an accounting mistake on financial disclosures overstated her husband’s assets. Trump has also accused Omar of being connected to fraud rings in Minnesota that received millions from state-run social service programs. Omar has denied any wrongdoing.

Vice President JD Vance, meanwhile, said in May that the DOJ was investigating allegations that Omar married her biological brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 to help him get approved to reside in the United States, an accusation that Omar has also denied.
“We’re going to investigate it. We’re going to take a look at it. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime. And that’s something that the Department of Justice is looking at right now,” Vance said at the time.
