Air passengers in Florida could soon be arriving and departing from President Donald J. Trump International Airport thanks to legislation signed on Monday by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
The governor signed a bill that would change the name of Palm Beach International Airport in Palm Beach, Florida, to the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” A proposal to change the airport’s name was initially filed in Dec. 2025, according to the legislative history of the bill. It was introduced in the Florida House of Representatives in February by state Rep. Meg Weinberger (R). Both the state Senate and House approved the change later that month.
“The airport located at 1000 James L Turnage Boulevard in West Palm Beach, or nearest thereto, currently known as the ‘Palm Beach International Airport,’ shall be renamed as the ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport,’ subject to approval of the Federal Aviation Administration and execution of an agreement with the rights holder authorizing the commercial use of ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport’ by Palm Beach County,” read the text of the bill.
After DeSantis’s approval, the name change still has to be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. However, that is just a formality at this point, as the FAA is expected to grant its approval, and the airport’s renaming will go into effect on July 1, 2026.
Weinberger stated she was “thrilled” that the name change was officially approved on Monday.
“I’m thrilled,” Weinberger told WPBF News. “He’s Florida’s first president. He and his family have fought tirelessly to, in my opinion, save our country.”
The cost to change all the signs at Palm Beach International Airport is expected to be approximately $5.5 million, according to multiple reports. The airport’s name change would also mean it would get a new airport identifier, going from “PBI” to “DJT” eventually.
Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) introduced federal legislation to “codify the name change at the national level and ensure coordination across aviation agencies,” CBS 12 News reported.
“President Donald J. Trump’s impact on our nation will transcend our time— a historic legacy of dedication and commitment toward the American people,” said Mast. “He’s called Palm Beach County ‘home’ for many years, and this designation reflects our gratitude for his public service and leadership.”
Eric Trump, son of President Donald Trump, celebrated DeSantis’s action to officially rename the airport in a post on X on Monday.
“Palm Beach International Airport is now officially…. ‘President Donald J. Trump International Airport!’ said the president’s son. He then thanked Weinberger, DeSantis, Florida Attorney General James Uthemeier and the Florida House.
“Proud to have played a small role in making this happen,” Eric Trump said. He gave special thanks to Meg Weinberger, a Republican running for State House District 94, as well as Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and the Florida House.
