Trump allies defend terrorist designation for Muslim Brotherhood as ‘vital step’

.

President Donald Trump’s executive order on Monday to begin designating some chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization was met with support on Tuesday.

While the designation is under review and won’t be official until at most 45 days from Monday, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) saw it as a “HUGE step.”

“Pres. Trump is right to make this federal designation,” Abbott wrote on X.

ABBOTT DESIGNATES MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD AND CAIR AS TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS IN ANTI-SHARIA PUSH

The executive order came days after Abbott designated the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization in Texas. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also piped in to “applaud” the order.

“This battle has been over a decade in the making, and it faced fierce opposition from supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood abroad and from deeply embedded bureaucrats across the U.S. government,” Cruz wrote in a statement posted to X. “The Muslim Brotherhood and its branches encourage, facilitate, and provide resources for conducting Jihadist terrorism across the world.”

Cruz called on the Senate to pursue his Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act of 2025 to expedite the designation process.

“The Muslim Brotherhood is a radical Islamic terrorist organization. It’s a threat to Arkansas and all Americans,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) wrote on X. “I commend President Trump for designating the Muslim Brotherhood as the terrorist organization that it is.”

“I’m glad President Trump’s administration is taking this important step to protect Americans,” Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID) wrote on X.

Risch is also the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman. “Those in the Muslim Brotherhood who call for violence against the United States and use their organizations to stir up hatred against Americans deserve to be designated as terrorists,” he added.

Senior officials working in counterterrorism also celebrated the order.

Senior Director for Counterterrorism for the National Security Council, Sebastian Gorka, alluded to the inspiration the Muslim Brotherhood gave Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri, the two leaders of al Qaeda at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as the Brotherhood called for Islamist rule.

“It should have happened the day after 9/11. But it didn’t. Because every President was ignorant or anti-American. Until President @realDonaldTrump arrived,” Gorka wrote on X. “God Bless the Commander-in-Chief for initiating the terrorist designation of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

“President Trump’s executive action to begin designating certain chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists is a vital step in safeguarding our national security,” the Treasury Department wrote on X. “This action enhances Treasury’s ability to disrupt terrorist financing networks and protect the integrity of the U.S. financial system.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also welcomed the order.

“For years, they have sown chaos, promoted extremism, and threatened governments across the Middle East, which is why many nations in our region already banned them,” Netanyahu wrote of the Muslim Brotherhood on X.

Retired general and former national security adviser to Trump, Mike Flynn, said that should the order come to fruition, it would be an accomplishment worthy of Trump’s inclusion on Mount Rushmore, alongside Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

“If @realDonaldTrump designates the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) a terrorist organization, I’ll start chiseling his likeness on Mount Rushmore,” Flynn wrote on X. “They present a hazard to our way of life. The MB’s motto is ‘Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.’ Sharia law is NOT compatible with our Constitutional Republic. Thank you for being strong Mr. @POTUS!”

TRUMP SIGNS ORDER TO BEGIN TERRORIST DESIGNATION PROCESS FOR SOME MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD CHAPTERS

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will begin consulting with Attorney General Pam Bondi and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to collaborate on a report on whether to designate any Muslim Brotherhood chapters, such as those in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan, as federal terrorist organizations under the federal statute.

The last group the U.S. designated as an FTO was the Venezuela-based Cartel of the Suns.
