Israel turns military focus toward Hezbollah post-Hamas ceasefire with new round of strikes

Israel struck Lebanon on Friday in some of the first airstrikes since the country’s ceasefire with Hamas began.

The airstrikes hit the village of Msayleh in southern Lebanon, killing one person and injuring seven, the Lebanese Health Ministry said. The attack hit a place that sold heavy machinery, and destroyed several vehicles.

Israel claimed the building was being used to rebuild infrastructure for the terrorist group, Hezbollah.

“STRUCK: Overnight, the IDF struck and dismantled a Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon. The site contained engineering machinery used by Hezbollah to reestablish terrorist infrastructure in violation of agreements between Israel and Lebanon,” the Israeli Defense Forces posted on X.

The Health Ministry said that the one person killed was a Syrian citizen, with one Syrian national and six Lebanese people wounded.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun slammed the strike for coming right after the ceasefire in Gaza.

“Once again, southern Lebanon has been the target of a heinous Israeli aggression against civilian installations — without justification or pretext,” Aoun said. “The seriousness of this latest attack lies in the fact that it comes after the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.”

President Donald Trump announced the deal between Israel and Hamas earlier this week, hoping for peace in the Middle East. He said the deal would result in peace “well beyond” Gaza.

“This is peace in the Middle East, and it’s a beautiful thing,” he said.

Israel’s airstrike on southern Lebanon also comes after a negotiated ceasefire with Hezbollah, ending the 14-month war between the factions last year. The country has accused Hezbollah of trying to rebuild in the aftermath.

Lebanon is Israel’s neighbor to the north. The recent war with Hezbollah killed more than 4,000 people in the country, and more than 100 people died in Israel.

At one point, Israel fought wars with both Hamas and Hezbollah on its North and South fronts. Meanwhile, Iran also launched strikes from miles and miles to the East. A short conflict, also known as the Twelve-Day War, between Iran and Israel ended in June.
