President Donald Trump said he will sue the Wall Street Journal and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, for publishing a story about the president, who wrote a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein, saying they have “certain things in common.”
Trump wrote in a Truth Social post that Murdoch said he would “take care” of the story, which described a letter the president allegedly wrote to Epstein, who would later be convicted of sex trafficking, inside a drawing of a nude woman, “but, obviously, did not have the power to do so.”
“The Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly by President Donald J. Trump that the supposed letter they printed by President Trump to Epstein was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued,” he wrote in a Truth Social post.
“The Editor of The Wall Street Journal, Emma Tucker, was told directly by Karoline Leavitt, and by President Trump, that the letter was a FAKE, but Emma Tucker didn’t want to hear that. Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway. President Trump will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly,” he continued.
Vice President JD Vance wrote soon after the story’s publication that the birthday letter was “complete and utter bulls***.”
“Forgive my language but this story is complete and utter bullshit. The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it,” Vance posted on X. “Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?”
He added, “Doesn’t it violate some rule of journalistic ethics to publish a letter like this without showing it to the victim of this hit piece? Will the people who have bought into every hoax against President Trump show an ounce of skepticism before buying into this bizarre story?”
In the piece, Trump denied writing the letter or drawing the lewd picture of a naked woman found in it.
“I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women,” he said. “It’s not my language. It’s not my words.”
He vowed then that he would sue the outlet if they published the article. “I’m gonna sue The Wall Street Journal just like I sued everyone else,” he said.
The letter, among dozens of others from Epstein’s friends, was collected by Ghislaine Maxwell and assembled in a leather-bound album.
Among other lewd letters written to Epstein, Trump’s featured a drawing of a naked woman with an imaginary conversation between the pair within her outline. “Voice Over: There must be more to life than having everything,” the note began.
Trump says, “Yes, there is, but I won’t tell you what it is.” Epstein replies, “Nor will I, since I also know what it is.” Then the president remarks that, “We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.”
“Yes, we do, come to think of it,” Epstein replied.
“Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?” Trump continued.
“As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you,” Epstein said.
“A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret,” Trump concluded.
The Washington Examiner cannot confirm the letter’s legitimacy. Its validity has been questioned across social media among conservative figures. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) called the letter a “sick made up hoax meant to weaponize a serious pedophile prosecution against the Left’s arch nemesis.”
Democrats have used the report to keep hammering the Trump administration to release the Epstein files, with Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) posting on X, “What other ‘wonderful secrets’ are Republicans hiding? Release the files.”
The report also comes as the White House battles attacks from the Left and Right concerning its refusal to release the Epstein files. Trump has called them a “hoax” despite previously promising to release them. He’s also slammed his supporters for believing in them.
FIGHTS OVER EPSTEIN FILES TEST TRUMP’S POWER TO CONTROL THE HEADLINES
Trump is a known associate of Epstein. The pair have had pictures taken together, and the president was once quoted as saying that Epstein “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
Epstein was found dead in his cell in 2019, in what was ruled a suicide after being convicted of sex trafficking of minors.
