Republican Jeff Hurd defeated Democratic challenger Adam Frisch and will represent Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District in the House, succeeding Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) after she switched districts.
The Associated Press called the race for Hurd at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, with 89% of the vote counted. Hurd received 50% to Frisch’s 46.9% at the time the race was called.
Frisch conceded the race to Hurd on Wednesday before the Associated Press called the race, saying in a statement that while he did not win, his campaign was “part of an important movement that seeks to turn the political temperature down and start focusing on the real challenges that face communities like the ones in CD3.”
“Everyday people are sick of partisan politics as usual, and the vast majority of people view themselves first and foremost as Coloradans – not Republicans or Democrats – who want both parties to stop the petty arguments and political grandstanding and start working together to help make everyone’s lives better!,” Frisch’s statement read.
It is the second loss for Frisch, who came close to ousting Boebert in the 2022 midterm elections but lost by a razor-thin margin. With Boebert as the leading Republican candidate in the 3rd District, the race was rated a “toss-up” by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. However, the race shifted back to “lean Republican” when she moved districts.
Boebert shifted to Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which was left vacant by retired Republican Rep. Ken Buck.
