Violence in the Middle East continued on Thursday morning as Iranian-backed Houthis claimed credit for a series of drone attacks against Israel.
In a statement released on the social media messaging platform Telegram, the Houthis announced they launched a “military operation targeting a vital target” in Tel Aviv.
“In continuation of the victory for the injustice of the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples and in support of the Palestinian and Lebanese resistances, the Yemeni Armed Forces’ drone air force carried out a military operation targeting a vital target in the Jaffa (Tel Aviv) area in occupied Palestine, using a number of Jaffa drones,” read a translation of the Telegram message. “The operation successfully achieved its objectives, as the drones reached their targets without the enemy being able to intercept or shoot them down.”
The attack happened shortly after the beginning of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, which began Wednesday evening.
The Israeli Air Force announced it shot down a drone over the sea near Nahariya that was launched from Lebanon, according to The Times of Israel. The Israeli military confirmed a second drone to have hit an open area, but no casualties were reported.
“This operation comes within the fifth stage of the battle of the promised conquest and the holy jihad in support of the Al-Aqsa Flood,” read the statement on Telegram. “The Yemeni Armed Forces salute the heroic Mujahideen on the fronts of Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the fronts of Lebanon and Iraq, and affirm their continuation in carrying out their military operations against the Israeli enemy until the aggression stops and the siege on the Gaza Strip is lifted, as well as the aggression on Lebanon stops.”
The “Al-Aqsa Flood” is the name given by Hamas and other Islamic pro-Palestinian groups to the Hamas-led attack in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

The Israel Defense Forces also announced that 25 rockets were launched toward its country from Lebanon after the drone attack, The Times of Israel reported. Israel’s missile defenses intercepted some of the rockets while others hit various areas in the country. No injuries were reported from this attack.
The drone attack comes after a terrorist attack by Hamas in Tel Aviv on Tuesday when a gunman killed seven people and wounded 16 others. This attack followed an attack that featured 180 ballistic missiles fired from Iranian territory into Israel. Israel’s missile defense systems and two U.S. Navy destroyers were able to intercept most of the rockets.
