San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich may be one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time, but he has allowed politics to turn him into a terrible person who only makes society more toxic.

When a sports reporter decided to go fishing for another Popovich political rant by asking about the Tennessee legislators who were expelled for “occupying” the House floor, in their own words, Popovich delivered.

WHY DO NBA PLAYERS INSIST ON PROMOTING RACIAL DIVISION?

“I mean, we’ve got two young black guys in Tennessee who just got railroaded by a bunch of people that I would bet down deep in their soul want to go back to Jim Crow,” Popovich said.

He then mocked Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) for saying that she was in contact with state and local officials, asking whether she was going to help clean the “brains off the wall” or wipe “blood off the schoolroom floor.” Popovich, who loves to rant about politics when he isn’t serving as a useful idiot for the Chinese Communist Party, thinks his political opponents are responsible for murdered children and are all Jim Crow racists. He also implied that Republicans wouldn’t care if their own family members were shot.

Popovich openly hates half of the country — and the country itself. He claims everyone he disagrees with doesn’t care about dead children and is racist. He does so while he and the NBA itself pretend that “empathy often marks” his way and that “party lines are not Popovich’s focus,” two quotes directly from the NBA’s website. It couldn’t be any less true. He’s a toxic partisan whose political commentary makes the country worse, spreading hatred while never offering a real solution.

Perhaps this is his way of distracting from his own newfound mediocrity. Popovich’s Spurs haven’t made the playoffs in four years and haven’t won a playoff series in six years. The Spurs wrapped up their season this year with a 22-60 record, their third-worst season in their 56-year franchise history. He knows sports media love liberal political rants more than anyone else. Why not be extra inflammatory to keep the heat off your failing year after year?

The result makes liberal sports reporters feel good, and it gets Popovich praise from liberals who also hate half the country, but it is incredibly destructive. Popovich wants people to hate each other and view their neighbors as irredeemable, evil racists. He is working harder to divide people and spread toxicity than he is to win basketball games. That is where his priorities lie.
