Meet the new Twitter, same as the old Twitter

Twitter banned several conservative accounts for noting that a group of transgender activists was planning a day of violence after a transgender person shot and killed six people at a Christian school. In other words, Twitter is acting the same as it always has.
Users sharing a poster showing the Trans Radical Activist Network’s planned “Trans Day of Vengeance” were suspended by Twitter for violating rules against “violent speech.” “You may not threaten, incite, glorify, or express a desire for harm or violence,” according to Twitter. The “Trans Day of Vengeance” flyer was allowed on Twitter up until conservatives noted that it existed, at which point those conservative users were banned for covering it.

The list of suspended users includes Sean Davis, the CEO of the Federalist, and journalist Wesley Yang. Journalist Andy Ngo was also suspended, and Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire got banned for posting a bible verse that did the opposite of promoting violence but contained the word “vengeance.” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was also suspended.
Again, this flyer was allowed on the platform with no suspensions until conservatives noticed. The Virginia chapter of the Trans Radical Activist Network even had the flyer pinned before both groups locked down their accounts and went private. The (now former) spokeswoman for Katie Hobbs, the Democratic governor of Arizona, made a post glorifying violence against “transphobes” after the shooting, and yet that post remained up for 28 hours before she voluntarily locked down her account.

The suspensions only seem to go in one direction. This was normal under the previous liberal leadership of Twitter, but apparently, it remains the case under the new leadership of CEO Elon Musk. Musk has been running Twitter in the same make-it-up-as-you-go fashion as the site has always run on. Is it any surprise that his version of it is now bringing the hammer down on conservative users as well?
There is little practical difference in the disciplinary process under Musk than there was under previous Twitter leadership. The policies are still arbitrary and rule changes are made on the fly. The suspensions still target conservative and right-leaning users. The only thing that has changed is more features being sent behind a paywall. Twitter has changed leadership under Musk, but it hasn’t changed much at all.
