President Donald Trump is slated to visit New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani in his home city, his first scheduled meeting with the mayor in the Big Apple, on Monday.
Trump will meet with Mamdani at Gracie Mansion, the mayoral residence in Manhattan, a White House spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner. Mamdani has visited Trump in the White House twice previously, but Trump hasn’t yet traveled to see Mamdani in his territory.
“Mayor Zohran Mamdani will meet with President Donald Trump at Gracie Mansion on Monday, September 21,” a Mamdani spokesperson told the Washington Examiner on Sunday. “The meeting will focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers.”
Despite their vast ideological differences, the duo was observed in their previous meetings as surprisingly friendly, with Trump offering up words of praise for the socialist. They had a particularly memorable interaction during the first meeting in November, when Mamdani was confronted over his past labeling of Trump as a “fascist” and whether he would affirm as much. After hesitating, Trump laughingly waved it off and told the mayor he could say yes.

Since Mamdani’s last visit in February, the two have exchanged barbs over social media. Trump said the mayor was “destroying” New York City in an April Truth Social post in response to his support for Gov. Kathy Hochul’s (D-NY) proposed pied-à-terre tax, an annual surcharge on homes valued above $5 million when there is no primary New York City resident present.
“Sadly, Mayor Mamdani is DESTROYING New York! It has no chance! The United States of America should not contribute to its failure. It will only get WORSE. The TAX, TAX, TAX Policies are SO WRONG. People are fleeing. They must change their ways, AND FAST. History has proven, THIS ‘STUFF’ JUST DOESN’T WORK,” he said.
