Former President Donald Trump did not hold back when asked why he is eager to return to the Oval Office in 2024, saying, “I think our country is dead.”

Fox News’s Sean Hannity pointed out that since President Joe Biden took office, Trump has been living a “great life” and questioned why the former president would give it all up to make this next presidential run. Trump, after pointing out that “great” has been marred by “being investigated by every prosecutor in America,” responded earnestly.

“I think our country is dead. We’re a failing nation, and I think we’re gonna fail completely. We’re a nation in decline. I use the term, it’s a horrible term,” Trump said on Hannity Tuesday night.

Trump has been vocal about where he thinks Biden has gone wrong in his presidency, including with the war in Ukraine. Trump repeated his statement that if he were president right now, he could end the war in 24 hours, but it could only be done “from the presidential seat.”

Hannity’s interview with the former president explored a variety of other topics as well. The Fox News host asked Trump whether he believes Biden should replace Kamala Harris as his vice president.

“He’s gonna have a hard time doing so,” Trump responded. “A big percentage of his party will fight him on it. It’s hard to believe, but they will fight him. I think he’s going to have a very hard time doing it.”

Hannity also broached the topic of cognitive tests, mentioning presidential hopeful Nikki Haley’s proposed mandatory mental competency test for politicians 75 and older.

“Well, I’ve already taken one. I’d do it again … I’d do it now,” Trump said. “I’d take it a step further. I don’t think it’s an age thing. I think a person running for president, you could even say running for certain offices if you wanna know the truth … but I’d like to see it for anybody running for president.”

“You know they do it in China, but it’s done a different way,” Trump added. Trump is 76 years old. Biden is 80.

Trump also spoke with Hannity on Monday night, discussing topics such as election interference, voting methods, and Republican rival Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The interviews come as Trump tries to stay afloat amid four lawsuits.

Most polls have Trump leading the race for the Republican ticket for the 2024 presidential election, with DeSantis (who has not announced whether he is running or not) in second place. The former president has launched attacks at the Florida governor and other rivals as he gears up for a monumental battle for the chance to decide the country’s future.
