Vivek Ramaswamy calls for DeSantis and Haley to condemn possible Trump indictment

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy demanded fellow 2024 GOP hopeful Nikki Haley and speculated future contender Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) condemn the potential indictment of former President Donald Trump.
Musing that some 2024 aspirants may be “quietly celebrating” Trump’s potential forthcoming indictment, Ramaswamy feared that an indictment could serve as a “giant leap towards the national divorce” and underscored the importance of Republican contenders showing solidarity.

“I called on my fellow GOP candidates @RonDeSantisFL and @NikkiHaley to join me in condemning the potential Trump indictment because those of us *running against Trump* can most credibly call on the Manhattan DA to abandon this disastrously politicized prosecution,” he tweeted. “I pray that the DA does the right thing: we’re skating on thin ice as a country right now.”

Reports emerged late last week that New York law enforcement was undergoing preparations for security in the event of Trump getting indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors have reportedly been weighing charges connected to the alleged $130,000 hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 cycle as well as related falsification of business records. Trump suggested Saturday that he “will be arrested on Tuesday of next week” and implored his followers to “protest, take our nation back.”
Ramaswamy hearkened back to his Conservative Political Action Conference address when he called for a national rival instead of a national divorce, something he cited as a core tenet of his campaign.
“The case for my candidacy is I am in the camp of a national revival,” he said in a video accompanying his tweet. “I think this takes us a step closer to a national divorce. I think that when you politicize the justice system itself to prosecute a political opponent of the party in power, the leading political opponent of the party in power, that is not one small step, but a giant leap towards the national divorce.”
An indictment of Trump will mark the first time in United States history that a former president was charged with a crime. Trump has vehemently denied wrongdoing and decried the Manhattan DA’s investigation as a witch hunt.

Ramaswamy, an underdog in the 2024 contest, further blasted the potential indictment as rooted in “ministerial and politicized grounds.”
Many Republicans who have criticized Trump, such as Vice President Mike Pence and Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH), both speculated potential 2024 foes, have voiced concerns about the nature of the Manhattan DA’s potential case against Trump. For instance, Sununu suggested it relied on an “untested” legal theory and highlighted the fact that the alleged payment took place roughly seven years ago.
