Elissa Slotkin touts fascism as the Democratic mask slips

.

Democrats such as Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) present themselves as normal centrists, but the use of lawfare as a strategy has even the supposed centrists touting a fascist world in which political opponents are intimidated into silence.

At an event at the University of Chicago, Slotkin promoted her goal of keeping young conservatives out of politics by threatening them with prosecution, telling the crowd, “I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? Like, that sounds fun, I might get an opportunity.’ I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.’ I want that deterrence message.” Slotkin said this when referring to “signature cases” against members of the Trump administration who “enable” the president.

When the inevitable backlash arrived, Slotkin sanctimoniously claimed that critics were lying about what she said and that she was only talking about people who “have aided in the corrupt use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to benefit the President or his family.” She concluded her defense by saying, “people looking to work for his Administration should realize that while the Supreme Court has granted the President immunity, it has not done the same for those who do illegal things at his behest.”

But that is not what Slotkin said. She wanted normal, everyday young conservatives interested in going into politics to think that working for a Republican administration would mean “buying myself a ton of problems.” She explicitly called it a “deterrence message.” If she was only talking about corruption, then she must either think that every conservative young person would engage in corruption if given the opportunity or that working for the Trump administration itself makes you guilty of corruption.

Either way, it is clear: Slotkin wants young conservatives to be intimidated out of politics. And she is supposed to represent the less extreme side of the Michigan Democratic Party.

Democratic activists and voters have already done their best to intimidate conservatives on college campuses and in the entertainment industry, wielding university bureaucracy and liberal media as weapons to silence them. Now, Slotkin is pushing to extend that strategy into politics, weaponizing the legal system itself to try to secure a future in which only out-and-proud Democrats are willing to engage in the political process.
