Former Hallmark Christmas movie star Candace Cameron Bure said she is hoping to star in movies that have “more meaning and purpose and depth behind them.”

Bure left Hallmark in April and signed a deal with Great American Family, an upstart cable channel hoping to produce a wholesome alternative to holiday entertainment. Bure said her goal is to produce “faith-filled” content.

“I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment,” Bure told the Wall Street Journal.

The former Full House actress’s departure from Hallmark came as the network began embracing pro-LGBT narratives. Bure is set to have an important role in GAC’s annual Great American Christmas movie franchise.

“I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” Bure said.

At the time of Bure’s signing, Bill Abbott, president and CEO of GAC Media and a former Hallmark executive, praised the actress for building the genre of heartwarming family programming.
