White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reaffirmed that President Joe Biden has the intention of jumping into the 2024 fray.

“What I can say is repeat what the president has said many times is that he intends to run. And I leave it there,” Jean-Pierre told Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC’s The Sunday Show.

Jean-Pierre noted that she was limited by the HATCH Act in what she could say. The policy restricts public officials from engaging in certain types of political activity.

Biden is expected to reveal his reelection plans within the coming weeks. Last week, Biden delivered his State of the Union address in front of a GOP-led House and traveled to both Florida and Wisconsin, in moves that were seen as a potential prelude to his reelection campaign. First lady Jill Biden has shifted in favor of him vying for reelection, CNN reported.

During an interview with PBS’s Judy Woodruff, the president seemingly affirmed that he intends to run again in 2024 and shrugged off concerns about his age. At 80, Biden is already the oldest president in the history of the United States. He would be 82 at the start of a hypothetical second term in office and 86 by the end of it.

“Watch me. That’s all I can say,” Biden told Woodruff in response to a question about whether he was too old to perform the duties of the commander in chief. Biden also emphasized he would “be completely, thoroughly honest with the American people if I thought there was any health problem — anything — that would keep me from being able to do the job.”

Polls have indicated that many Democrats would prefer Biden tap out of the 2024 contest. Former President Donald Trump has already announced his 2024 campaign, and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley is speculated to commence her campaign this coming Wednesday.

Jean-Pierre also discussed the recent incidents of objects shot down in North American airspace, including the one that was downed over Canadian airspace on Saturday.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and by the recommendation by the militaries for President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau, an unauthorized unmanned object” was shot down “in airways in the North American airspace,” she said.

The White House press secretary also defended Biden from criticism over the delay in shooting down the suspected Chinese balloon that first entered U.S. airspace on Jan. 28 and was shot down off the Carolina coast on Feb. 4.

“The president wanted to make sure that first that we would do it where it was safe and that the American civilians were safe, but also in a way that we would be able to collect,” Jean-Pierre stressed.
