The Washington Commanders may be sold after the Super Bowl, according to a tweet from Fox Business reporter Charles Gasparino.

Billionaire Jeff Bezos may also still be in the running for the team, but he has not submitted a bid yet, Gasparino said.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS EXPECTED SALE: WHERE THINGS STAND

The team announced in November 2022 that it was exploring a sale and had hired Bank of America to “consider potential transactions” regarding ownership.

A sale of the Commanders would require three-fourths of teams in the league, 24 of the 32, to approve the bid.

The annual league owners meeting is currently scheduled for March 26 through 29 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Among the “half-dozen” bids submitted to Bank of America for ownership of the team, $6.3 billion is the highest, according to Front Office Sports.

The Commanders have been mum on whether a sale is imminent. The option does remain for ownership not to sell.

The league has not forced the sale of the Commanders but has increasingly pressured owner Dan Snyder to make changes to the team.

In 2020, Snyder announced the team would retire the “Redskins” name, opting to be called the “Washington Football Team” for the 2020 and 2021 seasons before rebranding as the “Commanders” in 2022.

Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles is set to begin Sunday at 6 p.m. in Glendale, Arizona. The game is set to be televised by Fox.
