When White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked on The View about the record number of people who claim to be struggling more financially, she attributed it to the economy handed to President Joe Biden by former President Donald Trump.

“When the president walked into this administration, the economy was tanking. COVID was taking over. It was ravaging our country, and he took action to make sure that we got the economy back up and running,” she said on Tuesday.

Sara Haines noted a new ABC News poll showing that 40% of people consider themselves to be worse off financially since Biden took office. In response, Jean-Pierre explained, “It’s been a very hard couple of years.”

According to the press secretary, Biden will address the people who are still struggling while also touting his “tremendous progress.”

“We understand that Americans are still feeling some of that struggle. They’re still feeling what we have gone through, one of the worst pandemics in the century. That’s the reality we’re in,” she said.

Jean-Pierre was further pressed about a Biden reelection bid, to which she said, “He has said very explicitly, many, many times, that he intends to run.”

Lastly, Whoopi Goldberg asked her, “We need him to talk about the importance of education in Florida and in Texas and the need for him to stand up and say, ‘All American history involves people of color.’ Will you send that message to him for me?”
