Whoopi Goldberg asked her The View co-hosts on Tuesday why Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is not behind bars because of her comments about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

The hosts were reacting to remarks from Greene at a recent event, at which she said, “If Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention, it would’ve been armed.” The congresswoman later claimed that her comments were sarcasm.

“If we had done this, engaged in this in any way, we would be facing charges. This woman gets to come and talk about taking over the country, and she’s not behind bars. How does that work?” Goldberg asked.

“You think this is funny? You think this is a joke?” she asked. “You were going to war, you were talking about a coup, you were overthrowing the government. That’s what you’ve been talking about, don’t you hear it?”

“She also doesn’t seem to know what sarcasm means,” Joy Behar added. “When you use sarcasm, you’re saying the opposite of what you mean. This is an example of sarcasm, ‘Boy, that Marjorie Taylor Greene is brilliant. She should be in Mensa.’ That’s sarcasm. What she said was not sarcasm.”

“Go back to college and learn a little more. And then we’ll talk,” she said.

Goldberg further expressed frustration with people not being held accountable for the Jan. 6 riot.

The White House responded to news of Greene’s remark, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasizing, “This is what is coming from a member of Congress.”

“What’s more, she said it to a group that lashed out against condemning Holocaust denial. They were giving her an award,” she added.
