Whoopi Goldberg told her co-hosts that she isn’t so sure of Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) popularity despite the media coverage, referring to him as “the guy from Florida.”
Sunny Hostin said the party needs a “Republican star people can get behind,” to which Joy Behar suggested Cheney. Hostin agreed with the notion, and Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out that a new poll in Utah showed former President Donald Trump being defeated by both DeSantis and outspoken Trump-critic Cheney.
Griffin qualified this, noting, “Granted, Utah is not a super favorable state to Trump.”
The Deseret News-Hinckley Institute of Politics poll conducted by Dan Jones & Associates surveyed 802 registered voters in Utah between Nov. 18 and Nov. 23. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.46 percentage points.
The co-hosts compared the party’s relationship with the former president to Brokeback Mountain, an LGBT movie about a cowboy and a ranch hand. “This is, like, a bad relationship, you know? It’s like that movie ‘I can’t walk away from you,’ whatever that movie was called,” Goldberg said.
“I can’t quit you,” Behar corrected her, referencing the famous line from the film.
“They’re hedging their bets now that [Trump] could win again, and they’re making a mistake. I believe they’re making a huge mistake,” Behar later said of the GOP.
Goldberg responded, “They’ll figure it out soon enough because all you have to do is listen to the exit polls of why people didn’t vote Republican,” referencing the midterm elections in which Republicans did not see the predicted “red wave.”
