Biden had to be directed where to go on more than one occasion when he met Macron outside the White House.
After the pair addressed the media and onlookers, Biden shook the French president’s hand and then refused to let go, holding on to Macron for an extended period of time.
Macron patted Biden’s hand and the American president eventually released his embrace.
Biden was made aware that the ceremony had ended when an individual shouted out to him. “Mr. President,” the man yelled. “This concludes the ceremony.”
The 46th president and first lady Jill Biden are set to host Macron and his first lady Brigitte Macron for the administration’s first state dinner.
