Russia accuses Ukraine of rare cross-border attack

.

Russia has accused Ukrainian forces of attempting a surprise ground assault across the border and into the Kursk region. If true, this could be the largest Ukrainian incursion into Russian territory since the war began.

At least five people have been killed while more than two dozen have been injured, according to Russian state media TASS.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with government leaders and addressed the attack. He assigned First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to coordinate efforts to provide assistance to people in the region. Residents were evacuated from the area.

The Russian president described the situation as a “large-scale provocation,” and accused Kyiv of “indiscriminate shooting from various types of weapons, including missiles, at civilian buildings, residential buildings, and ambulances,” according to CNN.

Up to 300 Ukrainian soldiers, with tanks and armored vehicles, were involved in the attack, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
