Inside Scoop: Leftist tea party revolt, media madness, Trump’s athletic agenda

.

Jim Antle, the magazine’s executive editor, brings to life the pages of the Washington Examiner magazine in the show Inside Scoop. Each episode features exclusive insight from article authors and expert analysis.

Jim Antle opens the show discussing the rise of far-left Democrats, comparing them to the Tea Party movement that emerged during Barack Obama’s presidency.

“There are now many far left Democrats today who feel the same way about their party and about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and about other members of the Democratic congressional leadership,” Antle said. “They feel that the party is not doing enough to resist President Donald Trump, and they feel that the party doesn’t do enough to stand up for progressive principles.”

Antle notes progressive leaders such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) are influencing primary challenges ahead of the midterm elections, aiming to elect candidates as left-wing as possible.

“Democrats may face the risk that if they nominate too many socialist-type candidates, they won’t be able to build on the success that they had in last year’s off-year elections in 2025,” Antle said. “This may actually limit the kind of impact that they can have in the midterm elections in which they would otherwise be historically favored.”

Next in the show, Antle sits down with Drew Holden, the managing editor at Commonplace and author of the Holden Court newsletter, to discuss how today’s yellow journalism will end.

Holden compared the current media landscape to the era of yellow journalism in the late 1800s and early 1900s, where sensationalism and partisanship dominated.

“For the last ten years, things have just gone off the rails,” Holden said. “We really started seeing it crank up right before 2016 when Trump came to the fore.”

Holden says the American public is not responding well to the blatant partisanship in today’s news media and how media institutions are now seeing the limits of their audiences, as polling shows trust plummets to an all-time low.

“We’re seeing it around us right now with the Washington Post,” Holden said. “They announced that they’re laying off like a third of their newsroom, and it’s because they can’t make ends meet.”

Holden believes media companies today could see the same sort of course correction to what consumers want — real news.

“I’m optimistic that the sort of financial pressure that’s coming to bear on the media today,” Holden said. “If it has a lot of immediate consequences… could potentially serve as a similar sort of starting bell to say, ‘you have to offer a different product, you have to do something that’s different, or else you won’t survive.’”
