Inside Scoop: Market mayhem, making babies, and sportsman in chief

.

The Washington Examiner’s new show, Inside Scoop, is where we break down the news fit to print in the Washington Examiner magazine. Host and magazine executive editor Jim Antle dives into top news stories in Washington and around the world, focusing on the political issues that matter to you.

In the first episode, Antle breaks down the market mayhem caused by the tariffs President Donald Trump implemented. Some economists are very concerned that they could lead to higher prices and the sorts of economic conditions that got Democrats voted out of office. Trump administration officials believe they have the leverage and aim to renegotiate trade deals with a 90-day window, hoping to reshore jobs and decouple allies from China. Can Trump’s tariffs and trade policy deliver the results for the public, or will they simply eat up the economic progress that voters elected him to implement in the first place?

Timothy P. Carney joins the show to discuss how Hungary is working to encourage people to have more babies. Antle asks Carney how the Hungarian government has fallen short and whether these new family policies work in the United States.

“I do absolutely agree that a large child tax credit has to be part of our tax code,” Carney said. “But really, I would look to build family-friendly housing, so more duplexes with a little yard, more townhomes, the sort of things where you’re increasing the supply, but not just with large apartment buildings.”

MARKET SHOCK: TRUMP’S REIMAGINING OF GLOBAL TRADE RATTLES VOTERS SEEKING ECONOMIC NORMALCY

Plus, Trump has earned a new title of sportsman in chief. Our in-depth report by Daniel Ross Goodman breaks down how Trump is using strategic appearances to gain support and influence, particularly among working-class, patriotic, and conservative-leaning sports fans. This isn’t the Trump of 2017, snubbing the Golden State Warriors’ White House visit. This is a Trump who’s figured out the game. Show up, own the moment, and let the crowds do the rest.
