President Joe Biden will meet with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at the Baltimore & Potomac Tunnel on Monday as the two discuss how Biden’s $1 trillion infrastructure law will be used to restore the 150-year-old structure.

The Baltimore & Potomac Tunnel has been used since the Reconstruction Era to transport those traveling from New York all the way to Washington, D.C. The double-tracked arch tunnel has long been used by Amtrak and MARC trains, with roughly 140 trains passing through each day.

However, the tunnel has plagued travels in recent years as it requires trains to slow to 30 mph to safely venture past its curves — causing severe delays. Transportation officials have sought for years to replace the structure but have been stalled due to a lack of funding.

Biden and Buttigieg are set to meet with Amtrak officials and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) to tout the president’s infrastructure bill and how it will be used to revitalize the tunnel. They are scheduled to begin speaking at 2:45 p.m.
