The Senate rat race brings out California’s worst Democrats
Zachary Faria
The possibility of an open U.S. Senate seat in California in 2024 is attracting terrible candidates like moths to a flame, even though the seat may not be open after all.
Rep. Katie Porter was the first Democrat to jump into the fray. Porter is an abortion fanatic who has argued that the terrible economy that Democratic policies created was proof that people need to be able to kill their unborn children. Porter has already been endorsed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), proving that she takes economics as seriously as she takes her job in the House of Representatives.
Porter probably won’t be the worst candidate running for this Senate seat, though. That has to be Rep. Adam Schiff, the authoritarian who used his position in Congress to demand that private companies censor American citizens. Schiff used his position as the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee to lie about having evidence that former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 election. Schiff knew this wasn’t true, based on the information he had received in closed-door hearings, yet he peddled the lie anyway for political and personal gain.
PORTER LEADS SCHIFF IN EARLY LOOK AT POSSIBLE CALIFORNIA SENATE PRIMARY: POLL
Could the pool become any worse? Rep. Barbara Lee is also reportedly going to enter the race. Lee has cheered socialist Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and mourned the death of communist Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. The race could become all the more chaotic because the incumbent, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, has not even announced that she would be retiring. Feinstein, who is 89, has already filed reelection paperwork.
It appears that the only sane, non-ancient candidate may be Rep. Ro Khanna, an ally of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). That is how far California has fallen.
The political rat race in California is typically reserved for state politics, where state legislators try to build up a profile before term limits force them out of office. But the state’s two safe Senate seats are the biggest prize — safe seats with no term limits that you can hold for over 30 years (as Feinstein has). Combined with the state’s rapid descent into left-wing nuttery, the worst ideologues, authoritarians, and career politicians are unsurprisingly floating to the top to claim their prize.

If there is any silver lining about California’s worst politicians rushing into this race, it is that only one of them can win. Being rid of Porter or Schiff (or both) for at least two years would be a relief. If only someone could convince Rep. Eric Swalwell to get into this race, too.
