Who’s a bigger liar, Rep. George Santos (R-NY) or Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA)?
One repeatedly lied on the campaign trail to get into office, but the other uses his office to promote misinformation continually. Swalwell was at it again this week when he falsely claimed that Rep. Byron Donalds and Republicans are trying to remove Swalwell, Adam Schiff, and Ilhan Omar from their House committees because of vengeance. Fortunately, Jenna Ellis “brought the receipts” and exposed Swalwell for his latest con and deception.

On Jan. 10, Swalwell tweeted, “Breaking, Rep. @ByronDonalds admits on @thereidout that @SpeakerMcCarthy is kicking me, @RepAdamSchiff, and @Ilhan off our committees purely out of vengeance.”
This wasn’t true, of course. Swalwell did what he frequently does, dishonestly twisting the facts to advance a preferred narrative. Fortunately, Ellis replied to the tweet and showed the actual transcript of what was said. In reality, it was another misinformation master, Joy Reid, who asserted that removing Swalwell was out of “vengeance.” Donalds said no such thing and never used the word.
“If you’re kicking people off of committees and saying it’s literally for vengeance, you’re admitting it’s just for revenge,” Reid said, according to the transcript of the exchange that Ellis posted. “It sounds like using committee leadership for vengeance.”
Donalds explained that replacing people on committees was not out of revenge; Reid was the one trying to insist that it was. Reid spent most of the segment telling Donalds what it was that he said.
Ellis should be applauded for posting the transcript of the exchange and revealing Swalwell’s misinformation.
Swalwell, who will be removed from the intelligence committee because of his past relationship with a Chinese spy, never apologized, retracted, or deleted the tweet. He frequently criticizes Republicans and routinely contends that the GOP does not tell the truth. He was quite critical of George Santos’s lies. But he doesn’t hold himself to his own standards.

Why is Swalwell given a pass in the era of misinformation, disinformation, and George Santos’s lies? There needs to be more of the accountability that Jenna Ellis forced upon him this week by simply showing the transcript. Her tweet was swift, concise, truthful, and, most importantly, it showed that what Swalwell claimed was untrue.
