Yes, liberal media let skin color determine their crime coverage

.

There is no denying that liberal media is racially biased in how they cover (or refuse to cover) criminals based on their skin color or other characteristics.

This topic was broached by Ann Coulter in an appearance on Bill Maher’s show. Coulter claimed that “if it were a white man” who committed the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade, “we’d know.” Maher, a liberal who has bucked some narratives from establishment media but remains a liberal nonetheless, mocked her for her assertion.

That was on Friday night. Sure enough, TMZ on Saturday posted videos preceding the shooting showing people identified by eyewitnesses as the suspects involved in the confrontation that led to the shooting, who yes, happened to be black. In case you need any further proof, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas is accusing people of racism for referring to the shooters as “thugs.”

You are not imagining a lack of information, either. The Kansas City Star reported on Tuesday that “officials have released fewer details about the charges filed against two teenage suspects than in past” juvenile cases. According to the outlet, “past news releases from other juvenile cases have specified the charges and the ages of juveniles.” Along with the silence from the juvenile officer, there has been a lack of curiosity from liberal media outlets over the suspects and more of an interest in pushing gun control.

Even the adults are getting an obscene level of privacy. When it was announced that 23-year-old Lyndell Mays and 18-year-old Dominic Miller were also being charged in the shooting, we did not receive mug shots. Mays’s mug shot was finally released, but Miller’s is nowhere to be found.

We have ample evidence that this extends to various other crimes and shootings. My colleague Christopher Tremoglie has detailed how liberal media blows up stories about police shootings when the person who was shot is black, but doesn’t make national news out of them when the person who was shot is white. The Washington Free Beacon reviewed nearly 1,100 crime stories from major outlets, including the New York Times, and found that they systematically buried the race of the offender if he or she was non-white and prominently mentioned race if the offender was white.

None of this should matter, and yet here we are. No one who is serious thinks that the suspects in the shooting being black should reflect on the black community. And yet liberal media outlets, along with Democratic-controlled law enforcement agencies, want to bury the identities of shooters and other criminals if they happen to be black, while boosting the identities of those that are white. The only people spreading racism here are them, not the people who notice that they continue to change how they cover stories based on the skin color of the offenders.
