Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) became the latest Democratic politician to complain about the influx of migrants to his state this weekend.
In an appearance on ABC’s This Week, Pritzker complained that Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) was offering bus rides to illegal immigrants to Democratic-run cities like Chicago and New York City.
“Cities out here that are the target of this political game that Gov. Abbott is playing are suffering,” Pritzker said. “Here in Illinois, it’s minus 29 degrees outside with the windchill. We have migrants that arrive from Texas virtually every day, hundreds, and we don’t have places to put them. We don’t have enough shelter space here.”
While Pritzker does add throwaway lines about how “the president needs to do more” and “the Congress needs to do more,” he is blaming Abbott for a problem created by the policies of his own party’s president.
Abbott isn’t sending illegal immigrants to Chicago because he wants them to freeze to death. He’s sending them to Chicago because they want to go there and the Biden administration has failed to do its job at the border, forcing the state of Texas to handle a massive influx of people it is not equipped to deal with.

While Pritzker is the governor of Illinois and should certainly put the needs of his state first, it is quite ironic for him to complain that he doesn’t have room for the massive influx of migrants. Texas has borne the brunt of the immigration crisis, and the bussing of migrants to northern cities has done nothing to alleviate the problem. All it has done is force Democratic politicians to see the issue firsthand.
Pritzker doesn’t want the immigration and border crisis to be solved. He just wants Republican states to deal with the chaos that the Biden administration’s border policies have wrought. If he really cared about solving the crisis, he would push President Joe Biden to secure the border.
